DIY Little Duck Costume

I’m currently working on my daughter’s Abby Cadabby costume and was reminiscing about her costume from last year. Since she was too little to care much about what she dressed up as, I made her a little duck costume, which is one of her many nicknames. I searched for a while trying to find a costume that I could purchase but didn’t have much luck. I purchased a yellow-footed onesie and sewed a yellow boa (similar to this one, but fair warning – it sheds!) on the arms and front of the body. It was great because after she wore it for Halloween, I cut off the boa and she wore the onesie as pajamas.

I ordered a yellow hat on amazon and added eyes and some orange felt for the beak. She loves the hat and still wears it when we go to the playground. The white bib was a last minute addition when the feathers were tickling her face. I cut out some white felt and pinned it together, making it more comfortable for her to wear. The knitted orange feet were part of a baby duck costume I purchased from Amazon. I took a risk that they would stretch and they fit perfectly.

My favorite part of the costume was her little duck pond. She was just starting to walk so we had had gotten her a walker to use around the house. I wanted her to be able to use it to trick-or-treat instead of carrying her the entire time, so had planned to bring it with us. The night before I got the idea to make it look like a little duck pond using a white poster board and felt. Luckily I glued everything on since there were many little curious hands at daycare.

Lastly, I grabbed 2 duck noses at Party City, hoping my husband would agree to wear them for a bit.
